Saint Joseph's Reading Cafe
Share a snack and enjoy reading togther
Reading is a key focus for as a school, as reading opens the doors to everything. We are proud to introduce our new reading project - The Saint Joseph's Reading Cafe. Here children will be able to enjoy a book with an adult in a relaxed environment having a drink and snack. The children from the class with select the books themselves selecting fiction, non-fiction and poetry books. They will also then have the opportunity to pick their own categories such as a specific author they enjoy, a genre of a fiction or non-fiction or even a time frame when the stories are based.
We are very excited to invite each of our classes in the reading cafe to enhance both children and adults reading for pleasure.
To support our school community, we also have reading prompts to help the adults when working with the children. These promts help the adult talk to the child about the book and give them ideas of questions they can ask about the book. To ensure we are supporting our school community, these prompts have been translated into different languages to support them. In addition, all adults attending will recicve a booklet with additional advise on how to read with thier child at home. This is available in a range of languages also.
Our reading cafe launched Wednesday 4th February 2026, with Saint Francis the first visitors. The children selected a range of books and chose themselves the additional categpries of the author Michael Morpurgo, fantasy stories, adventure stories, books that make you laugh and fairy tales.
